Commentaries on Moschonas Lawsuit

newspaper_icon.jpgTheodore Kalmoukos from The National Herald wrote two additional commentaries in his paper’s latest edition regarding the Moschonas Lawsuit.

In one entitled “Yet another lawsuit“, Kalmoukos said:

Yet another priest – a retired clergyman from Tucson, Arizona – has been accused of sexual misconduct against an 18-year-old girl in yet another lawsuit. The story sent shock waves throughout the community. We have already had too many sexual abuse scandals to be able to absorb another one. Source

And went on to say:

As for us, it is difficult to understand why would a 70-year-old priest stay in the same room with a young girl. Source

A second commentary by Kalmoukis entitled “What Will Come Out of this New Church Scandal?” said:

Fr. Moschonas appeared in the role of a spiritual father, claiming that he considered the 18years old girl like “his grand daughter” and other similar things in order to answer to the very simple questions what business did he have as a 70 years old priest to share a hotel room with an 18years old young girl. We do not doubt the spiritual paternity of Fr. Moschonas, but we also believe that a very basic virtue of a spiritual father and mentor is the discretion.

I do think that the sharing of a hotel room with an 18 years old girl was an unwise and unacceptable thing to do not matter how close he was with her and her family. Basic sense of discretion will not allow Fr. Moschonas to share a hotel room with a young girl, even if she was is real grand daughter or even his daughter as a matter of fact. Source
